Privacy policy

StudyKit is built and run by Pragma Labs. Anything to do with your data goes to [email protected]. That is the only address — there is no separate form, and you do not need to be logged in to write to us.

What you give us

Your email address, display name, and a profile picture if you upload one. If you fill them in, also your target score and the date you plan to sit the exam.

What sitting a test produces

Your answers, your written work, recordings of the speaking section, how long you took, your section scores, and unfinished work you have not handed in.

When you report a problem with a test

What you wrote and any images you attach. The teacher who wrote the test can read those images, so do not capture your own private information in them.

What the system records by itself

IP address, device and browser type, sign-in times, and system errors. Used to prevent abuse and fix faults.

Cookies

One session cookie set on .usestudykit.com so you do not have to sign in again when you move between this site and the app. This site also sets Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity cookies to measure visits; they carry neither your name nor your email.

No passwords, because the system does not use them. No card or bank details, because the service is free and we take no payments. No access to your microphone or camera except when you press record yourself for a speaking section, and that recording only goes to the teacher who wrote the test.

• Letting you into your account and holding on to unfinished work
• Marking your work, storing your scores, and drawing your progress over time
• Suggesting tests for the skills you are weakest at. This runs on your own scores; it does not draw on anyone else's data
• Sending necessary email: sign-in links, deadline reminders, notice that your work has been marked, replies to what you report
• Counting aggregate figures so we know which tests work — how many people sat one, the average score. These figures carry no names
• Preventing abuse, blocking spam, and keeping the service running

We do not use your data to run advertising and we do not send you marketing email. If there is ever a newsletter, you will opt into it yourself and be able to leave with one click.

A teacher who assigns you a test

Sees your name, email, submitted work, scores and the target you entered. That is what makes marking and feedback possible.

A teacher whose test is public

If you find a public test and sit it yourself, its author sees aggregate figures only. Not your name, not your email.

Other users

Nothing. Your scores are not public, there is no leaderboard, and there is no public profile page for students.

Us

We look at a specific piece of work only when you ask us for help, when handling a complaint, or when investigating abuse. Every such look is logged.

We rent the infrastructure the service runs on: somewhere to host the servers and store files, an email delivery service, and a traffic measurement tool. Those providers may only process your data for the work we hired them to do, never for purposes of their own.

On the usestudykit.com site, those measurement tools are Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. Google Analytics counts visits. Microsoft Clarity records what you do on the page — the pointer, the scrolling, where you click — so we can see what is hard to use. The recording carries neither your name nor your email, and it cannot see into the test shown in an embedded frame.

We do not sell, rent or trade your data with anyone. When you follow a link to an exam board, we simply send you to their site and pass no data along with you. From that point their policy applies, not ours.

We hand data to a government authority only on a lawful written request, and we will tell you when the law does not forbid us from telling you.

Submitted work and scores

Kept until you delete them, because looking back over your own progress is the point.

Unfinished work

Kept 90 days, then deleted automatically if you do not come back to it.

Speaking recordings

Kept 12 months — long enough to listen back and compare against newer work.

Technical logs

Kept 12 months.

After you delete your account

Erased within 30 days. Aggregate figures with the names stripped out, such as a test's average score, are kept.

You have the right to see the data we hold, download a copy, correct anything wrong, ask us to delete it, and ask us to stop sending non-essential email. You can also withdraw a teacher's access to your work, by leaving the assignment.

Email [email protected] and say plainly what you want. We reply within 3 working days and finish within 30 days. We charge nothing for any of it. If you are unhappy with how we handled it, you may complain to the competent data protection authority.

StudyKit is for people aged 13 and over. Between 13 and 16 you need a parent's or guardian's consent. If you are a parent and find your child made an account without your knowing, email us and we will delete that account along with all of its work.

Data travels over encrypted connections. Only the people who need access to the system have it, and every access to user data is logged. No system is perfectly safe, so if data is ever exposed we will tell the people affected within 72 hours of finding out, saying plainly what happened and what you should do.

The effective date is at the top of this page. If a change affects your rights or how we use your data, we will email you 14 days beforehand. Small changes of wording only update the date.
